Ghale lifts New Year’s Golf Cup

Kathmandu, January 22:
Tashi Ghale won the New Year’s Cup Golf Tournament organised by Gokarna Forest Golf Resort under the sponsorship of Qatar Airways, Tourism Malaysia and Marcopolo Travels here today. Ghale won the title on count back after he was tied with Man Bahadur Limbu at 34 points each. Ghale bagged the winner’s award of tour package of seven-day holiday trip from Tourism Malaysia and two Kathmandu-Kuala Lumpur- Kathmandu air tickets from Qatar Airways. Limbu got Kathmandu-Delhi-Kathmandu air tickets for two from Cosmic Air.
Kalyani Moktan won the ladies section title with 24 points, whereas Puspa Rai came second with 23 points. Vinode SJB Rana scored 28 points and emerged victorious in the senior section, while Lt Gen KNS Thapa came second with 27 points.
C B Bhandari, with 27 points, won the best gross award, while Lacchim Prasad Gurung bagged the most birdies award with three birdies. Tashi Tsering won the longest drive award, while Maj Bejoy Moktan emerged the golfer closest to the pin.
In all, 85 golfers — including nine in ladies and 10 in senior section — from Gokarna Golf Club, Royal Nepal Golf Club, Tribhuvan Army Officers’ Golf Club, Nirvana Country Club of Dharan and Himalayan Golf Club of Pokhara — took part in the one-day event.
Mahendra Singh, Malaysian Ambassador (designate) to Nepal and Lawrence Loo, Marketing consultant of Cosmic Air, gave away prizes to the winners. Gyan Amerasinghe, Area Manager of Qatar Airways and Subodh Rana, MD of Marcopolo Travels, were also present on the occasion.
