LALITPUR: Gita Shrestha and Akriti Acharya clinched the U-14 Girls’ Doubles title here at the third LAS-JTI Inter-school Junior Open Tennis Tournament today.

Gita and Akriti of the Little Angels (LA) defeated Sange Ongdi and Ashma Lama of The British School 6-0, 6-3 in final. Making it to the U-14 Boys’ Doubles final were Achal Thapa and Ananda Gauchan of Rato Bangala and Diwas Shrestha and Binod Gautam of LA. Achal and Ananda beat LA duo David Tako and Subir Shrestha 6-1, 6-2 while Diwas and Binod saw off Tenzing Sherpa and Somesh Lama of Ideal English School 6-0, 6-3.

Anuska Joshi of British School and Mina Gharti of Brihaspati set the U-14 Girls’ Singles championship clash. Anuska eased to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Anuska Malla of St Xavier and Mina dispatched Sange Ongdi of British School 6-4, 6-4. Making it to the U-14 Boys’ Singles final were Achal Thapa of Rato Bangala and Suyash Rajbhandari of British School. Achal saw off Diwas Shrestha of LA 6-1, 6-1 and Suyash beat Subir Shrestha, also of the LA, 6-2, 6-2.

Anuska Joshi and Mina Gharti will also meet in the U-16 Girls’ championship match. Anuska beat Pabitra Gurung of Golden Gate 6-3, 6-1 and Mina rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Kencho Ongdi of British School. Entering the U-12 Boys’ Singles final were Aakash Roka of LA and Avay Gauchan of Rato Bangala. Aakash defeated Sakchham Karki of Rupy’s International 9-1 and Avay edged past Egill Sigurdson 9-7.
