Gladiators to meet Kings XI in second playoffs

KATHMANDU: Bhairahawa Gladiators beat Chitwan Tigers in an eliminator and will play against Kathmandu Kings XI in second playoffs for a title showdown with Lalitpur Patriots, the organisers said.

Earlier, Patriots had defeated Kings XI by a wicket to seal their place in the final of this year's EPL trophy.

The winner will walk away with a cash purse of Rs 2.5 million and runner-up will bag Rs 1 million, according to organisers.

Gladiators skipper Sarad Vesawakar won the toss and invited Prithu Baskota's Tigers to take the first strike in an enticing encounter with playoffs berth at stake, at the TU Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur, today.

With the help of Dipendra Singh Airee's brilliant 56 runs off 45 balls with six fours and a maximum, Tigers managed to score a decent 139/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, Gladiators cantered to four wickets victory to book their place in the second playoffs against Kathmandu Kings XI tomorrow at the TU Cricket Stadium with final at stake.

Man-of-the-match Pardeep Airee laid the foundation for the chase with his measured 45 runs off 38 balls. Tiger's Kamal Singh Airee was a pick of the bowler with three scalps.

However, he couldn't prevent his team from losing a crucial encounter.
