Glovesman Chemjong keeps on shining

Kathmandu, May 8

National team goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong is one of the best footballers of the country at the moment and he has been able to live up to the expectations.

He came into limelight after he got the opportunity to play for two foreign football leagues — India and Maldives. The outstanding performances on home soil and foreign land have earned him the nomination in the People’s Choice category of the NSJF Pulsar Sports Award slated for May 17.

Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, volleyball player Man Bahadur Shrestha, golfer Pratima Sherpa and table tennis player Santoo Shrestha are other nominees in the category. The winner will be decided through SMS voting, Facebook likes, votes from the NSJF members and coaches of 35 sports.

Chemjong’s popularity reached the peak last season after he helped TC Sports of Maldives finish runners-up in the Dhivehi Premier League and his team also earned berth in the AFC President’s Cup. Chemjong, who played in the India’s Hero I-League from Minerva Punjan FC, helped his team win the title.

Besides that, Chemjong played for the national team in the AFC Asian Cup 2019 Qualifiers and was named man-of-the-match against Yemen on home soil after the hosts played a goalless draw with the visitors.
