Golden Gate, Prime triumph

KATHMANDU: Golden Gate College and Prime College shared the titles of the Sprite Basketball Bash Inter-college Tournament here today. Golden Gate defeated Prime College 63-59 in the men's section final, while Prime thrashed Golden Gate 41-17 in the women's final.

In men's final, Golden Gate took a 22-10 lead in the first quarter, while Prime dreduced the deficit by five points scoring 19 to that of Golden Gate's 14 in the second quarter. Prime narrowed the lead to just two points scoring 18 points and restricting Golden Gate to 13 points.

But they failed in the last quarter when Golden Gate netted 14, two more than Prime. Binod Shrestha of Prime, who was later named the MVP, top scored in the match with 26, while Manoj Serchan of Golden Gate netted 24.

Prime avenged their loss beating Golden Gate 41-17 in women's final. Prime led from the start and dominated throughout the match. They led 7-3 in the first quarter and dominated the second 16-6. After the break, Prime scored 10 and eight points in the last two quarters, while Golden Gate managed eight and four points respectively. Swimmer-turned basketball player of Prime Nayana Shakya top scored with 12 points. Jaya Shrestha of Prime was named the MVP.

In all, 11 teams in men's and five in women's sections took part in the tournament organised by Kathmandu College of Management (KCM). Director of KCM Binay Sharma and UFO's Brand Manager Sachin Shrestha gave away prizes to the winners.
