Gorkha Brewery win

KATHMANDU: Gorkha Brewery defeated Sipradi Trading by three wickets to win the title of the Coca-Cola Indoor Corporate Cup here at the Velocity Arena on Sunday. Opting to bat first, Sipradi scored 91-6 in their allotted 12 overs. Chiran Thapa top scored for Sipradi with 24 runs and Birendra Mandal contributed 19.

In reply, Gorkha Brewery reached 92-4 in 12 overs. Player-of-the-match Biswash Manadhar scored 38 runs, while Bijay Rawat contributed 30 for the winning team.

In the semi-final matches played earlier, Gorkha Brewery beat F1Soft by six runs, while Sipradi Trading hammered Kantipur TV by 56 runs. Shawant Sijapati of Sipradi was named the man-of-the-series and the best bowler, while Roshan Shrestha of Kantipur TV was declared the best batsman.

A total of 12 teams took part in the tournament organised by Nepal Sports Management Pvt Ltd under the sponsorship of Bottlers Nepal Pvt Ltd. National cricket team skipper Paras Khadka handed over the prizes to the winners.

Chess Olympiad

KATHMANDU: Nepali teams suffered defeats in the 42nd Chess Olympiad in Baku, Azerbaijan on Saturday. The men’s team lost 3-1 to International Braille Chess Association (IBCA), while women’s team faced a 3.5-0.5 defeat against Malawi in the eighth round.

In men’s section, Kshitiz Bhandari defeated International Master Jacek Stachanczyk, while Sajin Maharjan went down to IM Yuri Meshkov. Likewise, CM Bhupendra Niraula lost to FM Stanislav Babrykin and FM Bilam Lal Shrestha was beaten by FM Oliver Mueller.

In women’s fixtures, Ashmita Adhikari shared points with Desiderata Nkhoma. In other matches, Sindira Joshi went down to Tupokiwe Msukwa, Shanta Thapa lost to Ellen Mpingajira and Sujana Lohani was beaten by Linda Jambo. In the ninth round, men’s team will face Jamaica and women’ team will play against Pakistan.

Lincoln win title

LALITPUR: Lincoln School won the 16th LA Inter-school Swimming Tournament title here on Sunday. Lincoln accumulated 220 points to win the championship. Hosts LA finished second with 53 points.

The British School bagged third position with 41 points. Anubhav Subba of DAV and Neharika Tuladhar of Lincoln were adjudged with the best players of the tournament.

A total of 414 swimmers from 54 schools competed in the two-day tournament.

Weather hits fixture

MILAN: Torrential rain forced Serie A officials to postpone the Genoa v Fiorentina Serie A fixture at half-time on Sunday.

After an opening disrupted by the weather, poor visibility and poor playing conditions, Serie A officials announced the match had been postponed.
