Gorsia wins ninth edition title of Monthly Medal

Harish Gorsia won the ninth edition of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stroke play full handicap format, the 12-handicapper Gorsia played a round of seven-under 65 to win the nett section trophy. Gaurab Shah came second on count back after he was tied on three-under 69 with Ang Tshiring Sherpa and Devendra Bajgai. Shah played four-under 32 on the back nine to finish ahead of Sherpa (34) and Bajgai (35). Sherpa finished second runner-up.

Wangchen Dhondup won the gross section award with the score of one-over 73. His elder brother, Tashi Tshering was runner-up at two-over 74. Sam Doublard bagged the junior section title with the score of two-under 70 nett.

In all, 38 golfers took part in the tournament sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes.

After the ninth edition, Surendra Phuyal leads the table in both nett and gross sections. He is at the top of the leaderboard in nett section with 385 points, while Devendra Bajgai is second with 275. Ang Dendi Sherpa is third with 180, followed by Pavitra Kumar Karki (135) and Jigmay Dongstetsang (130).

In gross section, Phuyal has accumulated 550 points and to take a 50-point lead over Tashi Tshiring. Wangchen Dhondup is third with 270, while Tashi Dong (205) and Prithvi Malla (100) are fourth and fifth respectively. In junior category, Arnav Shah is at the top with 455 points, while Ang Phurba Sherpa is second with 380 points. Mayank Dahal is third with 375, followed by Sam Doublard (350) and Shreeyog Basnyat (120).

After the 10th and final monthly medal round in December, top 40 in nett, 10 in gross and five in junior sections will advance to the Club Championship finals which will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
