Gurung, Sandhya lift golf trophies

Kathmandu, January 7:

Major Lachhimi Prasad Gurung accumulated 35 points to win the King Birendra Memorial Golf Tournament 2006 here at Royal Nepal Golf Course today.

Played at stable ford ¾ handicap format, Rabindra Man Shrestha came second with 33 points in count back and birdied in two holes to win the most birdies award.

Tashi Ghale scored 30 points to win the best gross award, while Major Paire Lal Thapa won the super senior section award with 12 points.

Sandhya Rai earned 25 points to bag the ladies section title, ahead of Kausi Maya Rai, who finished with 24 points in count back. Chuda Bahadur Bhandari won the longest drive award at Hole No 13, while Shastika Shrestha emerged the golfer closest to the pin.

In all, 56 golfers, including five in ladies and two in super senior sections, took part in the tournament. Mphan P Khanal, MD, RNAC, gave away prizes.
