Gurung takes lead
Kathmandu, December 21:
Major Lachhimi Prasad Gurung accumulated 39 stableford points to take lead at the CMS Cup Golf Tournament at the Royal Nepal Golf Club today.
Playing with nine handicap at the 7/8 handicap format event organised by College of Medical Science under the sponsorship of ISME Pvt Ltd, Gurung scored 17 points in the front nine and added 22 in the back nine for a total of 39 points. Dawa Sherpa — playing with 16 handicap — came second with 36 points scoring 16 and 20 in the front and back nine respectively.
Capt Til B Gurung and Suman K Joshi scored 33 points each.
A total of 45 players including three ladies played their rounds on Friday, while other 55 golfers will try their luck tomorrow. The winner will be declared after the second day’s play. The amateurs will get prizes in 18 different categories.
The CMS organised the professional tournament from December 17-21 at the RNGC. Shiva Ram Shrestha won the tournament beating a challenge from Ram Thapa. Purna Sharma came third in the event. The winners in both the pro and amateur sections will be awarded on Saturday.
