Harris stars as Aussies win series
ADELAIDE: Ryan Harris produced a man-of-the-match performance in only his second match for Australia as they beat Pakistan by 40 runs in the third one-day international match here today.
Harris took 5-43 and Clint McKay claimed 3-48 as Pakistan were all out for 246 replying to Australia’s 286-6. It gave the home side a winning 3-0 lead in the five-match series.
Shaun Marsh (83) and Michael Clarke (80) were the mainstays of Australia’s
innings, while Mike Hussey weighed in with 49 off
only 28 balls. And Australia will now have their sights
set on a clean sweep ahead of the final two games in Perth, having already won the Test series 3-0.
They had to make an enforced change as Harris, who made his debut against South Africa 12 months ago, replaced injured Peter Siddle. But he was not needed at the start as Marsh and Shane Watson launched Australia’s innings with a stand of 63.
It came to an end when the final ball of the 13th
over saw Watson bowled by Mohammad Asif (33)
and home skipper Ricky Ponting followed for a third-ball duck when he was LBW to Rana Naved.
Marsh and Clarke steadied things by adding 85 for the third wicket before the former was stumped off Saeed Ajmal. Clarke was dropped at short cover by Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf when he was on 32 and made Pakistan pay by stepping up the tempo after reaching his half century without a single boundary.
