Henman ousted, Roddick advances
London, June 13:
Andy Roddick lost only four points on his serve on Tuesday, beating Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the third round of the Queen’s Club grass-court championships.
Roddick has lost just one match in his past four appearances at the Wimbledon warm-up event, winning three straight titles before losing to James Blake in the 2006 semi-finals.
In the first round, Karlovic of Croatia beat Mardy Fish of the US 6-3, 6-4. Also, French Sebastien Grosjean beat German Michael Berrer 6-4, 6-2, and French Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat Kristian Pless of Denmark 7-6 (2), 6-0.
Croatian wild card Marin Cilic beat Tim Henman of Britain 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-4 for his first ATP Tour victory since July 2006.
DFS Classic
BIRMINGHAM: Li Na overcame a sluggish start to defeat Yaroslava Shvedova 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 in the second round of the DFS Classic.
Two seeded players lost in first-round. No 11 Olga Poutschkova was upset 6-0, 6-0 by German Angelique Kerber, and Alicia Molik beat No 10 Severine Bremond 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Molik will play Vania King next, a 7-6 (7), 7-6 (7) winner over Brenda Schult-McCarthy .
In other second-round matches, Maria Kirilenko defeated Nathalie Dechy, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0, Elena Likhovtseva beat Agnieszka Radwanska 7-5, 7-6 (4), Eleni Daniilidou ousted Casey Dellacqua 6-4, 6-4 and Daniela Hantuchova won 6-2, 6-4 over Olga Govortsova.
