Hosts Prime College beat British Gurkha

Kathmandu, December 17:

Hosts Prime College made a strong comeback in the final quarter to beat British Gurkha 45-36 in the fifth Prime Cup U-19 National Basketball Tournament.

Trailing by 23-25 after the third quarter, Prime scored a whooping 22 points while restricting British Gurkha to 11 in the last quarter. Skipper Ravi Giri scored 19 for Prime while Anish Gurung of British Gurka top-scored with 26 points.

In other boys’ section matches, Orient College defeated United Academy 36-31, Reliance International Academy hammered Kamana International College 45-5 and National Campus edged past Kathmandu Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) 33-31.

Orient led by just one point (14-13) in the half time against United Academy and extended their lead to five points scoring 12 against eight in the next quarter. The third quarter turned out to be the decider as both the teams scored 10 points in the final quarter. Puspa Raut of Orient netted 22 points.

Deepu Thapa top-scored with 15 points in Reliance’s emphatic win over Kamana, who could not even open their account in the first and the last quarters.

In the girls’ section, White House eased past NCCS 24-10 riding on 10 points from Prerna Malla. Orient overcame New Summit 30-12 as Maya top-scored with 12 points for the winners. Also, Maya Shrestha guided National Campus to 17-15 win over DAV. Maya alone scored 12 points in her team’s win.
