ICC INTER-CONTINENTAL CUP: Nepal in deep trouble
Kathmandu, March 25:
Batting collapse, as usual, deceived Nepal as they were all out for just 140 runs in reply to Namibia’s first innings total of 272 on the third day of the ICC Inter-continental Cup playoff match against Namibia today.
Nepali batsmen never looked comfortable in run chase, which has been a long time problem for Nepal in the senior team.
The hosts scored 245/6 on the second day after rain washed out first day’s play. They added another 27 runs on the third day to be all out for 272.
Nepal skipper Binod Das, who took two wickets on Friday, claimed all the four wickets to fall on the third day.
Debutant Aamir Akhtar and Basanta Regmi had taken two wickets each on the second day.
Opener Paresh Lohani was the highest scorer for Nepal with 34 off 74 balls including three boundaries. He added 46 runs opening stand with Kanishka Chaugain, who scored 14.
Mehboob Alam scored 13 and vice captain Shakti Prasad Gauchan contributed 13 runs.
Nepal needs an outright win to qualify as the eighth and final team in the non-Test playing countries’ tournament, while a draw is sufficient for Namibia.
