Indian team wins

Kathmandu, October 7:

The Indian team defeated Nepali team 28-22 to win the Gaekwad Cup Friendly Golf Tournament here at the Le Meridien Gokarna Forest Golf Resort and Spa today.

The Indian team, who took a 16-10 lead after the first day on Saturday, earned 12 points today to win the championship. The Nepali team scored 12 points on the second day of the event played under Four-Ball-Better-Ball format.

A total of 44 golfers — 22 each from Nepal and India — took part in the championship with four golfers making a group. The group players had to play against each other within the group to earn a maximum of two points from the 18-hole round.

Tashi Ghale of the Nepali team won the longest drive award, while S P Gaekwad of the visiting team claimed the closest to the pin honour.

The team of Capt Raichand and AS Mann of India was declared the best winning team on the first day, while two other teams of India — PS Gaekwad/A Gupta and Raman Singh/ Satpal Singh — won the award jointly on the second day.

Baroda Princess Asha Gaekwad gave away the prizes to the winners amidst a ceremony.
