India’s Singh, Abraham win SA Triathlon C’ship golds

India’s Mani Chandra Singh and Samira Marihama Abraham won gold medals in the sixth South Asian Triathlon Championship here today.
In men’s sprint category, Singh took 58 minutes and two seconds to cover 750m swimming, 10km cycling and 5km race. Bishworjit Saikham, also from India, finished second with the timing of one hour, one minute and two seconds, while Nepal’s Basant Chaudhary came third in one hour, four minutes and 50 seconds.
In women’s section, Abraham finished the distance in one hour, four minutes and 50 seconds, while fellow Indian triathlete Pragyan Mohan came second with the timing of one hour, eight minutes and 42 seconds. Nepal’s Sonu Gurung bagged bronze medal in one hour, 13 minutes and eight seconds.
In men’s open category, Singh, Saikham and Chaudhary claimed top three positions respectively, while Spain’s Ishwora came first in women’s section ahead of India’s Abraham and Mohan.
Meanwhile, Tribhuvan Army Club dominated the medal tally in the eighth National Triathlon Tournament. In men’s section, Basant Chaudhary came first with the timing of one hour, one minute and two seconds, while Dipesh Chaudhary clocked one hour, one minute and 18 seconds for second position. Rudra Katwal finished third in one hour, four minutes and 43 seconds.
In women’s category, Nepal APF Club’s Soni Gurung won the gold medal in one hour, 13 minutes and eight seconds, while Kathmandu’s Roja KC — the individual section silver medallist and team category bronze winner in the 12th South Asian Games — came second with timing of one hour, 17 minutes and 33 seconds. TAC’s Yam Kumari Bhujel took one hour, 24 minutes and one second for third position.
In men’s duathlon, TAC’s Man Bahadur Thapa won gold with the timing of 54 minutes and 17 seconds to complete 5km race, 10km cycling and 2.5km race. APF’s Kiran Malla was second in 55 minutes and 39 seconds, while his teammate came third with the timing of 55min and 53sec.
In women’s section, APF’s Huma Budha Magar and Pratima Chaudhary bagged first and second positions respectively in the two-player field. Magar took one hour and nine minutes, while Chaudhary clocked one hour, 15 minutes and 23 seconds.
