England call Carberry
LONDON: England have drafted uncapped Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry into their squad for the third Test against South Africa as cover for Paul Collingwood, British media reported on Wednesday. Collingwood suffered a finger injury in fielding practice ahead of the fourth day of England’s second Test victory and, although X-rays revealed the Durham batsman had broken no bones, Carberry was called up in case he doesn’t make the Cape Town clash, which starts on January 3.
Diaby extends deal
LONDON: France international midfielder Abou Diaby has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, the club confirmed on Thursday. Diaby joined the Gunners from Auxerre in January 2006, and after recovering from a broken ankle, has since gone on to make 119 appearances. Diaby has developed a good understanding with Cesc Fabregas in their new midfield formation this season. “This shows my long-term commitment to Arsenal and I am very happy here, which is why I am so pleased to extend my contract,” said Diaby.
