Altidore scores twice as Toronto clinch MLS playoff spot

TORONTO: Jozy Altidore scored his second goal of the game in the 86th minute as Toronto FC drew with the New York Red Bulls 3-3 to wrap up a playoff spot in Major League Soccer on Sunday.

Altidore took Michael Bradley's pass and beat a defender, turning at the edge of the penalty box to fire the ball home.

Altidore also scored on a free kick in the 68th minute. He has eight goals in his last nine games.

Toronto has won seven of its last 10 games to take a two-point lead over the Red Bulls atop the Eastern Conference.

The Red Bulls missed a chance to clinch a playoff spot, blowing leads of 2-0 and 3-1.

Elsewhere, Landon Donovan scored two minutes after entering as a second-half substitute to help Los Angeles salvage a 2-2 draw with Sporting Kansas City.

Los Angeles moved into second place in the Western Conference standings, four points behind FC Dallas.

Sporting KC is five points ahead of Seattle for the sixth and final playoff spot.
