Juventus join Milan on top

Fabio Cannavaro and Marcelo Zalayeta headed in first-half goals as Juventus beat Bologna 2-1 to sit atop the Serie A table with co-leader AC Milan.

Cannavaro headed home in the 18th minute from a Mauro Camoranesi cross. Zalayeta scored six minutes later.

A long-distance free kick by Federico Giunti in the 27th minute reduced the gap for Bologna, which was unable to produce any clear scoring chances in the second half.

Juventus and Milan both have 76 points with an identical 23-7-4 record. In other matches, Inter Milan 2, Siena 0; Udinese 2, Atalanta 1; Sampdoria 2, Messina 2; Palermo 2, Chievo Verona 2; Parma 6, Livorno 4; Lecce 5, Lazio 3; AS Roma 2, Brescia 2.

MADRID: Samuel Eto’o scored his 22nd goal and kept FC Barcelona’s lead at six points as the Catalan team beat Albacete 2-0. Playing in his first game for the senior squad, 17-year-old former Argentine junior star, Lionel Messi, scored the second in the 90th minute.

Barcelona leads with 78 points ahead of Real Madrid (72). Sevilla is third with 58 and Villarreal is fourth on 55 points.

In a late match, Sevilla continued its quest for a Champions League place next season with a 2-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna.

Forlan scored twice as Villarreal trounced Getafe 4-0. Zaragoza beat Osasuna 5-1.

Elsewhere, Malaga beat Levante 1-0; Mallorca beat Espanyol 3-2; and Racing Santander drew 1-1 with Real Betis.
