KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 25

Jawalakhel Youth Club and Sankata Club played a 1-1 draw in their last round match of the Qatar Airways Martyrs Memorial A Division League here at the Dasharath Stadium today.

Sunil Khadka scored for Jawalakhel in the first half, while Uttam Rai replied for Sankata in the latter half of the match.

Sankata remained at the seventh position with 16 points following their seventh draw, while Jawalakhel, who settled for their sixth draw in the league, are at the 10th position with 14 points.

Sunil Khadka put Jawalakhel ahead in the 14th minute after he slotted into an empty nets following a pass from Onguna Nkengue Junior after he combined with Nicholas Fernandes and Sunil Khadka to create the move. Khadka had a chance to double the lead six minutes later but this time he could not put power in his shot.

Uttam Rai levelled the scores in the 61st minute when he headed home following a corner from Suvash Gurung. Sankata, who had put themselves as title contenders at one point, faltered on the latter half of the tournament and ended the campaign with three wins, three losses and seven draws.

Jawalakhel, meanwhile, struggled to avoid relegation and they recorded three wins and played five draws in 13 matches.

At the ANFA Complex grounds, Three Star Club rallied to share a point with already-relegated Brigade Boys Club and they needed an equaliser from Dona Thapa in injury time to end the campaign with a 1-1 draw.

After a goalless first half, Prashant Tamang put BBC ahead in the 56th minute capitalising on miscommunication between Three Star skipper Ashok Khawas and Rafael Bidias Rim. Tamang collected the ball released by his goalkeeper Angel Shrestha and beat Three Star custodian Guillaume Yves Priso Njanga in one-on-one situation.

At a time when the match was heading towards the end, Dona Thapa rescued Three Star with a cool finishing after taking a pass from Ghanefo Ansumana Kromah. With their seventh draw and four wins, Three Star ended the league campaign at the sixth position with 19 points. BBC, who have been relegated to B Division along with Chyasal Youth Club, earned eight points.

BBC could register just one victory in the league and they played five draws.

Machhindra Football Club have already sealed the title for the second consecutive season and they are at the top with 32 points with one match remaining.

Tribhuvan Army FC are a distant second on 22 points, while newcomers Satdobato Youth Club, who have already played their 13 matches, are third with 21 points. New Road Team and Manang Marsyangdi Club have 20 points each with last round matches to play.
