Kalaiya beat New Horizon for second straight win

Kalaiya Cricket Club registered second victory in the Jagshakti Sansad Cup Twenty20 Cricket Tournament here at the Siddheshwar grounds on Wednesday.

Kalaiya defeated New Horizon Cricket Club of Bhairahawa by eight wickets to go on top of the table with four points from two matches. Batting first after winning the toss, New Horizon scored 107-7 in 20 overs, while Kalaiya raced to 108-2 in 16.3 overs. Anil Sah top scored for Kalaiya with 38 off 26 balls that included three fours and as many sixes,

while man-of-the-match Sunil Dhamala scored 34 off 53 balls with three fours. Nirmal Thapa and Dhiraj Shahi claimed a wicket apiece for New Horizon.

Earlier, Kalaiya’s bowlers did not allow New Horizon batsmen to settle in the pitch. Kushal Malla top scored for New Horizon with 33 off 42 balls that included two fours and a six, while Nirmal Thapa scored 15 off 34 balls with four boundaries. Basant Regmi claimed three wickets for Kalaiya, while Sushil Kandel grabbed two and Sunil Dhamala took one.

In another match, Birat Cricket Society registered a six-wicket victory over Mahabir Youth Committee. Batting first, Mahabir were bowled out for a paltry 72 runs in 18.1 overs. In reply, Birat reached 76-4 in 11.1 overs. Man-of-the-match Shaddab Akhtar claimed three wickets which helped Birat to restrict Mahabir to a low score. Hasim Ansari grabbed three wickets, while Pushpa Thapa took two wickets and Firdosh Ansari had one for Birat. Sobha Kant Pandey top scored for Mahabir with 17 off 25 balls, while Raj Mohammad (16) and Rajaul Mustafa (14) were the other two batsmen who contributed in double figures.

Birat had a worst run chase as they lost opener Nishant Kumar for naught in the second over and were reduced to 23-3 by the fifth over. But Shaddab Akhtar’s 34 off 25 balls with five fours and a six and Manish Thapa’s unbeaten 23 off 18 balls guided the team to victory. Gopal Singh grabbed two wickets for Mahabir, while Raj Mohammad and Ram Naresh Giri claimed one each.
