Kathmandu beat Nuwakot, make it three in a row

Kathmandu, March 30:

Kathmandu beat Nuwakot by 161 runs in the Wai Wai U-19 Region-3 (Kathmandu) Selection Cricket Tournament here at the TU Stadium today.

Batting first after skipper Gyanendra Malla won the toss, Kathmandu scored a massive 273-7 in 40 overs. In reply, Nuwakot were packed for 112 runs in 36.2 overs.

Man of the match Subhash Khakurel scored 79-ball 85 including eight fours and a six. Opener Dipen Shrestha made 42 off 37 balls and Sunam Gautam contributed 34 runs for Kathmandu. Raj Shrestha (22) and skipper Malla (20) also contributed valuable runs.

Birat Man Singh Dangol, Paras Khadka, Rom Shrestha and Deepak Chitrakar took one wicket each for Nuwakot.

Rom Shrestha top-scored with 29 runs in Nuwakot’s run chase. Birat Man Singh Dangol and Rajesh Shrestha, the only other Nuwakot batsmen to reach double figures, contributed 24 and 14 runs respectively.

Raj Shrestha and Raman Shrestha bagged three wickets each for Kathmandu while Avaya Rana claimed two. Prakash Thapa and Sunam Gautam also picked one wicket each.

The win was Kathmandu’s third consecutive in the tournament. They crushed Bhaktapur by 208 runs on Tuesday before registering a 157-run win over Lalitpur the next day.
