Kathmandu, Bhairahawa triumph

Birgunj, October 17:

Region No 3 (Kathmandu) and Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) registered wins at the Sintez MM Twenty20 National Cricket Tournament today.

Kathmandu beat Region No 2 (Birjung) by four wickets, while Bhairahawa edged past Nepalgunj by three runs.

Bhairahawa scored 114-6 and restricted Nepalgunj to 111-8. Birgunj were all out for 74 runs in 19 overs and Kathmandu chased the target losing four wickets in 18.2 overs.

Nepalgunj failed to score 10 runs from the last over to win the match. Nepalgunj needed four runs off the last ball but Sandeep Shrestha got run out as they fell three runs short.

Mahesh Chhetry top-scored for Nepalgunj with 25. Amrit Bhattarai took 2-19, while Lal Bahadur Adhilari pocketed 1-22. Sagar Khadka scored an unbeaten 26 off 23 balls for Bhairahawa, while Antim Thapa and Rahul BK added 19 runs each. Nabin Shahi took three wickets for Nepalgunj, while Subendu Pandey claimed two.

Earlier in the day’s first match, Kumar Prasun and Sanjog Karna added 44 runs for the last wicket to take Birgunj to 74 from 30-9. Prasun hit two sixes in his 22-ball 24.

Dipendra Chaudhary took 3-15, while Paras Khadka, Rom Shrestha and Raju Basnet, who claimed two wickets each for Kathmandu.

In reply, Sharad Vesawkar top-scored with 18 off 34 balls for Kathmandu. Prasun returned to take 3-5 in three overs and earned the man of the match award. Sanjam Regmi, Sanjog Karna and Suraj Timilsina claimed one wicket apiece.

On Saturday, Birgunj will take on Bhairahawa and Biratnagar will play against Nepalgunj.
