Kathmandu triumph
Kathmandu, May 21:
Dipendra Chaudhary and Sharad Vesawkar both scored magnificent centuries as Kathmandu district mauled Bhaktapur by 246 runs in a rain interrupted match at the Shikhar Regional (Kathmandu) Cricket Tournament here today.
Electing to bat first, Kathmandu scored a mammoth 453-5 in 49 overs. In reply, Bhaktapur were bowled out for mere 33 runs in 18.3 overs. The target was revised to 380 in 35 overs. The second wicket partnership of 167 between Yaswant Subedi (88) and Vesawkar laid the foundation for a massive total after Paresh Lohani (16) was dismissed.
But the real stars of the day were Vesawkar and Chaudhary. Vesawkar (104) struck 13 fours and four sixes in his 60-ball innings while man of the match Chaudhary was even more explosive in his unbeaten 68-ball 149. He struck 16 boundaries and five sixes.
Chasing the revised 380-run target, Bhaktapur were all out for 33 runs in 18.3 overs with only opener Robin Joshi (13) reaching the double figure mark. Raj Shrestha finished with 4-4 in his 4.3 over spell while Abhay Rana and Raju Basnet took two wickets each for Kathmandu.
