The Kathmandu Badminton Academy on Monday appointed Udaya Kumar Shrestha as the chief of its Players Development Department.

"We are hopeful of getting new heights in our bid to produce champion shuttlers with the arrival of Shrestha," said KBA President Rita Bista in a release.

The 65-yearold Shrestha has already served as the chief coach at the National Sports Council and has the experience of coaching national teams in 22 international tournaments including the World Championship, Thomas Cup qualifiers, Asian Games and South Asian Games.

Shrestha represented the country in the Asiad, SA Games and Asian Badminton Championship in his playing career.

The KBA has been conducting training programmes at the Bulls Indoor Sports Hall in Lalitpur and Devinagar Club in Kathmandu.

The KBA has also announced the Kumari Bank Kathmandu Team Championship in June with first-ever draft of the players in the participating eight teams.
