KCTC to participate in cricket carnival
Kathmandu, August 13
Youth cricketers from Kathmandu Cricket Training Centre (KCTC) will fly to Malaysia on Friday to participate in the third YSD International Youth Cricket Carnival slated for August 15-18 at the Bayuemas Oval Cricket Stadium.
KCTC informed that they will participate in U-16 category as the carnival features both U-16 and U-18 categories. KCTC — in the third local team — to participate in International festivals as Great Himalaya Cricket Academy and Dhangadhi Cricket Academy have already participated in the festivals abroad.
Nepal will play six games against the Sri Lankan, Malaysian and Singaporean teams in the carnival.
The carnival will have different rules than the normal cricket as a team will consist eight players and will play 12 overs match. There will be no leg before wicket and the winner will be awarded three points. Bipin Acharya will lead the squad of Deepak Bohara, Biraj Tandukar, Irsad Ansari, Ankit Shrestha, Mehul Shrestha, Pratis GC, Sunil Thakur, Bibek Rana Magar and Rit Gautam.
Former U-15 skipper and national player Raj Shrestha will accompany the team as coach.
President of KCTC and vice-captain of national team Gyanendra Malla said that it was good exposure for the players. “Without ACC we cannot think about the age level tournaments so this is great opportunity for the youth players to learn cricket,” added Malla. The team is sponsored by SCT nPay.
