Khan takes 5-55, Afghanistan lead Bangladesh by 374
CHITTAGONG: Rashid Khan added a five-for to a half-century on his captaincy debut as Afghanistan continued to dominate its one-off test against Bangladesh and piled up a 374 run lead by stumps on Day 3.
Khan, who scored 51 in Afghanistan's first innings of 342, took 5-55 to help dismiss Bangladesh's first innings for 205 — 137 runs behind — after Bangladesh resumed Saturday on 194-8.
It got worse for Bangladesh as opener Ibrahim Zadran hit 87, while Asghar Afghan followed his 92 with 50, as Afghanistan reached 237-8 in its second innings before a power failure in the stadium ended play for the day.
Bangladesh was bowled out 17 minutes after resuming with Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi (3-56) claiming the last two wickets.
But Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan removed Afghanistan opener Ihsanullah Janat and first-innings centurion Rahmat Shah in consecutive deliveries in the first over to reduce the visitors to 4-2 in the second innings. Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan had Hasmatullah Shahidi caught by Soumya Sarkar at slip for 12 to further peg back the innings with Afghanistan at 28-3.
Newcomer Ibrahim Zadran and Afghan resisted with a 108-run stand for the fourth wicket before left-arm spinner Taijul Islam claimed Afghan.
Zadran and Afsar Zazai took the lead past 300 runs before Nayeem removed 17-year old Zadran, who was visibly tired after playing 208 balls and failed to clear long-on in his attempt to hit his fifth six.
Afsar Zazai is 34 not out.
Shakib Al Hasan had 3-53 while Taijul and Nayeem took two wickets apiece.
