The tie-sheet for the 14th Khumbu Lhosar Cup football tournament has been drawn on Friday.
According to the organiser, the tournament will be organised at Sano Gaucharan Football Academy ground from February 12-19.
Chief co-ordinator of the tournament Mingma Sherpa informed that the tournament aimed at promoting sports in the Khumbu region.
"Yambu Thamichho Kidug Kathmandu and Thamichho Chowa Youth Group are pleased to organize this tournament to mark the dragon year 'Lhosar' here in Kathmandu," Mingma, a social worker and a leader from Thame, shared.
The tie-sheet has been drawn by renowned climbers Tashi Lakpa Sherpa and Mingma David Sherpa in the presence of team managers and players. Tashi Lakpa's 14 Peaks Expedition is the title sponsor while Mingma David's Elite Exped supported the event as man sponsor.
Altogether eight teams - Thamichho Football Team, Namche Youth Group, Khumjung Youth Clib, Amadablam Youth Club, Khunde Community Club, Mahendra Jyoti Ex Students FC, Khumbu Yambu Sherpa Samaj and Khumbu Veterans - are taking part in the tournament, according to Ngima Tenjing Sherpa, secretary of the organizing committee.
Yambu Thamichho Kidug chairman Tshiring Wangchu Sherpa said that the winners will get running shield, medals, certificates and cash prizes. There will be 16 matches in the tournaments.
In each game, man of the match will be given Rs 3000 while the best striker, defender, goalkeeper, midfielder and emerging player will also get cash prizes.
According to Mingma Sherpa, the winning team will get Rs 1 lakh, first runner up will get Rs 50,000 and second runner up will be given Rs 25,000 cash along with trophies and medals.
Since 2010, Khumbu Lhosar Cup is being organised to unite Khumbu youth as well as to promote sports culture in the Everest region.
The tournament, which will be played under league cum knockouts formation, has been supported by Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, Solududhkunda Municipality, Namche Buffer Zone Consumers Committee, Everest Sherpa Foundation, legendary climber Kami Rita Sherpa, 8K Expeditions, Ward No 1 chair Funuru Sherpa, Climbalaya Treks and Expeditions, Khumbu Lodge, Trekking Team Nepal, Summiteers Mountain Gear and Holiday Lodge Namche.
According to the organiser, Sherpa Outfit, Nepal Air Link, Altitude Air, Aero Trust Travel, Norman Sanasar, K2 Summit Treks and Expedition, Go to Himalaya Treks, Sherpalaya Treks, Pioneer Adventure, Everest Trekkers Lodge, Sherpa Barista Cafe, Helping Hands Hospital, Blue-waste to value, Prakash Singh Karki, Nuru Sherpa, and Ang Pasang Sherpa also offered their support to the tournament, Mingma said.
"We also aim to encourage Khumbu youths to join national team in the future," he added.
