KU, Tri-Chandra advance

Kathmandu University (KU) and Tri-Chandra College advanced to the quarter-finals of the second Himalayan Cup Inter-college Cricket Tournament, which has been jointly organised by Himalayan White House International College and The Himalayan Times, here today. In the first match, Tri-Chandra beat Ace Institute by 54 runs. Batting first, Tri-Chandra scored 191/8 in 25 overs, riding on Suman Uday and Suraj Basnet’s half centuries. Opener Niraj Basnet was out for a duck, while other opener Uday hit nine fours in his 48-ball 50. Uday was later declared the man of the match. Basnet scored 50 off 47 balls including seven fours, Saraj Kumar Lal scored 33 and Amit Lohani made 16-ball 17.

For Ace, Nitin Nayan and Biswash Manandhar took two wickets each. In reply, Ace managed 137/8. Biswash Manandhar top-scored with run-a-ball 38 including six fours, while Nitin Nayan scored 35 off 46 balls. For Tri-Chandra, Amit Lohani, Niraj Basnet and Anil Adhikari took two wickets each. In other match, man of the match Anuj Raut took 6-17 off five overs as KU beat Everest College by three wickets. Batting first, Everest College scored 139/8 in 125 overs. Openers Kimon Ojha and Adesh Prajapati put up 84 runs, but could not get support from others. Ojha hit five fours and a six in his 31-ball 39, while Prajapati scored 38 off 52 balls including five fours. Siddhartha Sharma scored 23, and Sagun Upreti hit three fours in his 19-ball 17.

In reply, KU overcame the target losing seven wickets in 23.3 overs. Opener Robin Thapa scored 29 off 33 balls including six fours, while other opener Ritesh Adhikari hammered seven fours in his 24-ball 36. Sujesh Pradhan (22), Bhusan Adhikari (25) and Abhisekh Shrestha (15 ot out) made crucial contributions. For Everest College, Bibek Shrestha took 3-29, while Ashis Gharti claimed two wickets.
