Lama wins Ballantine’s Open title

Kathmandu, September 19

Capt Nima Lama won the title of the Ballantine’s Open Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford ¾ handicap format, the 11-handicap amateur golfer Lama accumulated 41 points to claim the title. He scored 22 points on the front nine before adding 19 on the latter half. Kanchan Basnet, who scored 23 and 16 points in two halves, finished second with 39 points.

Capt Lama missed the Hole-in-One award -- Tata car -- on the par-3 10th by a couple of inches and ended up winning the closest-to-the-pin trophy. Tashi Tshering won the gross section trophy with 31 points, while Rekha Ghimire lifted women’s category title with 28 points. Tsultrim Lama bagged the senior (above-60yrs) section award with 30 points.

Mikhail Lari won the longest drive award, while Tashi Tshering bagged the most birdies award on count back after he was tied on three birdies. Country Manager of Pernod Richard Ravinder Saini and President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes to the winners.
