Letar Singh, Kanchi Maya win Peace Run

KATHMANDU: Letar Singh Khatri of Nepali Army and Kanchi Maya Koju of Armed Police Force (APF) Club won the five-km Peace Run, organised by Madan Bhandari Sports Academy to mark the Kathmandu Peace Marathon, here today.

Khatri won the race in 15 minutes, 15.09 seconds. Bhumi Raj Rai of Nepal

Police finished second in 15 minutes, 21.34 seconds and another Armyman Jit Bahadur Dhami ended up third in 15 minutes, 22.10 seconds.

Koju won the women’s race in 18 minutes, 10.36 seconds while her APF teammate Krishneswori Sintakala stood second in 19 minutes, 43.54 seconds. Chhaya Khatri of Nepal Police claimed the third spot with the timing of 20 minutes, 12.05 seconds. Top three athletes in both the men and women’s races received Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 each respectively.

The race started from the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureswor en route to Thapathali, Putalisadak, Ratna Park, Bhadrakali, Shahid Gate and New Road before ending at the Basantapur Durbar Square. In all, 136 men and 30 women took part in the race.

Earlier President Dr Ram Ram Baran Yadav inaugurated the Peace Run. Constituent Assembly Chairman Subash Chandra Nembang was present during the

closing ceremony.

Apart from the competitive race, general people also took part in a peace rally from Dasharath Stadium to Basantapur.
