Liverpool FC auctions jerseys to collect funds for quake-hit Nepal

KATHMANDU: The Liverpool Football Club auctioned the jerseys that its players donned while playing against Queens Park Rangers at Anfield to collect funds for the earthquake survivors in Nepal.

"An auction of 14 match-worn Liverpool FC shirts has helped raise a grand total of £9,941.88 for the Nepal earthquake appeal," the English football club wrote in its official website. The amount is equivalent to Rs 16,02,829.

In the May 2 match, Liverpool had beaten QPR 2-1 with skipper Steven Gerrard's header on 87th minute.

Liverpool FC further said that a series of generous bids from the public on online auction site eBay have helped fund a significant donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee.

"The money raised will help provide shelter, food, blankets, clean water, sanitation supplies, water storage units, medical aid and baby kits," it said.
