Gurung wins silver
KATHMANDU: Janam Gurung won a silver medal at the fourth Asia Pacific Goju-kai Karate Tournament held in Hong Kong on November 14-19. Gurung lost the boys’ (9-11 years) final match against a Japanese opponent, said Nepal Goju-kai Karate-do Association on Thursday. The 10-member Nepali team had participated in the event. Apart from Nepal, India, Japan, Malaysia, Iran, Indonesia, Phillipines, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei and Australia also took part in the event. — HNS
Committee formed
KATHMANDU: A nine-member Kathmandu District Boxing Association was unanimously elected here on Thursday. Rajiv Shrestha is the president of the newly elected committee while Kiran Bahadur Shrestha and Krishna Man Shrestha are the vice-presidents. Others elected in the committee were Deepak Lal Shrestha (general secretary), Tek Bahadur Gurung (treasurer), and members Sony Shrestha, Raj Krishna Shrestha, Ramesh Das Shrestha and Krishna Bahadur Thapa. — HNS
Charity volleyball
KATHMANDU: A charity volleyball match between Tribhuvan Army Club and Dhorpatan Club will take place at Deep Jyoti Boarding School in Gongabu on Saturday. The match aims to raise funds for national player Hari Mahato, who has been hospitalised with kidney failure. The proceeds from the match will be donated to Mahato. — HNS
TIA basketball
KATHMANDU: Trungram International Academy (TIA) is organising the fifth TIA Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament from November 23-30 in Kathmandu. In all, 33 teams — 21 in boys and 12 in girls’ sections — will take part in the annual league-cum-knock out event, the organisers said at a press meet on Thursday. — HNS
