Rana wins U-19 title

KATHMANDU: Kishor Rana of Armed Police Force (APF) defeated Sajan Krishna Tamrakar of Kathmandu 21-13, 11-21, 21-10 to win the Under-19 boys’ single championship at the fourth nationwide Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Tournament. Balram Thapa of Banke, Ram Singh Chaudhary of Kailali, Indra Mahata of APF and Pashupati Paneru of Kailali advanced to the men’s single semi-finals. Balram got a walkover from Anil Lakhe while Ram Singh beat Pankaj Chand 16-21, 21-18, 21-8. Likewise, Indra edged out Bikash Shrestha 21-18, 21-14 and Pashupati eased past Bishal Pradhan 21-11, 21-8. — HNS

MADHYAPUR: Kathmandu University School (KUC) edged out Trungram International Academy (TIA) 5-4 in sudden death to advance to the quarter-finals of the first Inter-school Invitational Football Tournament here on Monday. The match was decided on a penalty shootout following a 0-0 deadlock in the regular and added time. KUC goalkeeper Nikesh was named the man of the match. — HNS

Team to go to HK

KATHMANDU: A seven-member karate team is leaving for Hong Kong on Tuesday to participate in the 11th Asia Pacific Shito-ryu Karate Championship slated for November 21-25. The players include Kushal Shrestha (65kg), Fatta Bahadur Gurung (above-80kg), Santosh Yakkha (below-80kg) and Tara Gurung (women’s 60kg). Team leader Kedar Babu
