National team announced

Lalitpur: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) announced the 20-member team for the FIFA World Cup, Asian Zone Qualifiers against Oman. Eight players from Nabil Three Star Club (NTSC), four each from New Road Team (NRT) and Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC), three from Mahendra Police Club (MPC) and one from Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) were called for the national duty. Nepal will play away on October 8 before taking Oman on home soil on October 28. Tennis

LALITPUR: Kumar Adhikari and Jitendra Pariyar advanced to the men’s doubles semi-finals at the eighth Nepal Investment Bank National Tennis Tournament. Kumar and Jitendra trounced Atmaram Karki and Rojesh Shrestha 6-0, 6-0. The pair Krishna Ghale and Suwarna Raj Dhakhwa thrashed Trikal Tuladhar and Samyak Tuladhar 6-0, 6-0, Chandra Shahi and Kamal Bhandari overcame Jivan Moktan and Samyak Udas 6-1, 6-1 while Sriram Magar and Soviet Man Shrestha defeated Santosh Khatri and Chhewang Lama in the other men’s doubles quarter-finals. The semi-finalists in the veterans’ doubles (above 35yrs) were Pradeep Shakya/Suman Dhakhwa, Suwarna Raj Dhakhwa/Krishna Ghale, Herbendra Singh/Rameshwor Thapa, and Manoj Shah/Surya Bhusan Bajracharya. Kabbadi

KATHMANDU: Far-western Region won the 10th Women’s National Kabbadi Championship held in Kanchanpur on Tuesday. Far-western overcame Eastern Region 46-32 in the final. Central Region claimed the third place with a convincing 69-21 win over Western Region. Central Region claimed the 16th Men’s National Championship with a 39-15 victory Far-western Region. Nepali Army claimed third place defeating Western Region 46-29. Sanjay Shrestha of Central Region and Khageswori of Far-Western Region were declared the best male and female players respectively. — HNS

Swimming

LALITPUR: Nepal Swimming Association is organising the 14th National Swimming Tournament here from Thursday. In all, 72 male and 48 female swimmers from six teams — five development regions and Nepali Army — will fight for the championship in 30 events. The three-day event has been taken as the preliminary selection event for the 11th South Asian Games, the National Sports Council release stated. — HNS
