Golden Peak win

KATHMANDU: Golden Peak School and Greenland School entered the final in the boys’ section of the first Forward Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Thursday. Shyam Hari Poudel netted 15 points as Golden Peak thrashed Mt Glory 39-8 while Greenland sneaked past North Point Academy 53-51. Likewise, Mahendra Bhawan and Valley Public also made it to the final in the girls’ section. Mahendra Bhawan outscored Greeenland 21-8 with Sima Khadka contributing 14 points for the winning team. In another semi-final, Valley Public crushed Gillette International School 28-4. Merina KC and Sony Gurung scored eight points each. — HNS

Sports Festival

KATHMANDU: Buddha Air is organising various sports events beginning from Friday to mark its 10th anniversary. Snooker, women’s basketball and football tournaments will be organised between the internal teams of the Buddha Air. In all, 31 men and a lady cueist will take part in the snooker tournament slated for Friday while the basketball tournament is scheduled for September 21 and will be participated in by three teams. The annual football tournament will be held between September 8-29 with four teams taking part for the championship. Quiz contest is also scheduled for September 30, said the company here on Thursday. — HNS

Oasis triumph

KATHMANDU: Oasis School beat British School 45-27 and Wilson Academy earned a 45-41 win over Malpi International College in the third Fr Watrin Women’s Open Basketball Tournament here on Thursday. Maya Syangten netted 19 points for Oasis School while Emma Black scored 13 points for British School in the first game of the day. In another game, Tashi Deldon top-scored for Malpi with 23 points while Sushma contributed 20 for Wilson. — HNS

Snooker tourney

LALITPUR: The snooker selection tournament for the second Asian Indoor Games, slated for October 26 to November 3 in Macau, began here on Thursday. Top two players among the 22 players participating in the five-day selection tournament will represent Nepal in the Asian Indoor Games. Shyam Chitrakar, president of Nepal Billiards, Snooker and Pool Association, inaugurated the tournament on Thursday. — HNS
