Thimi finish third
POKHARA: Madhyapur Thimi Municipality crushed Biratnagar Sub-metropolitan City 5-0 to finish third in the third Inter-Municipality Football Tournament at the Pokhara Stadium on Friday. Santosh Sahukhala struck twice and Manoj Ranjit and Bharat Khawas added one goal each for Thimi while Sanjeev Budhathoki conceded an own goal. With the win, Thimi also avenged their 1-0 loss to Biratnagar in the final of the first edition. Kathmandu Municipality and Lalitpur Sub-metropolitan City will vie for the championship on Saturday. — HNS
Chyasal beat Chakrapath
KATHMANDU: Chyasal Youth Club blanked Chakrapath Youth Club 6-0 and Social Youth Club thrashed Garuda Sports Club 7-1 in the Western Union Martyrs Memorial ‘C’ Division League Football on Friday. Chakra Byanjankar scored four and Shanker Byanjankar and Sanju Lamichhane added one goal apiece for Chyasal. In another match, Krishna Gopal Shrestha scored a hat trick and Bijay Khadgi and Pankaj Lamichhane converted a brace each for Social Sports. Saroj Shah pulled back one for Garuda. Earlier, ‘B’ and ‘C’ Division club representatives met the National Sports Council member secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha requesting to stop the league or else make Annapurna Club, which opted out of the event until Thursday, participate in the league. — HNS
Rasaili, Khati enter final
KATHMANDU: Raj Kumar Rasaili and Ratan Khati advanced to the men’s 52kg sansau final in the inaugural day of the sixth National Wushu Championship, organised by Nepal Wushu Association, on Friday. Also making it to the final were Gyan Bahadur Rai and Bishnu Rai in 48kg, Yuvaraj Gurung and Suresh Kumar Shrestha in 56kg, Kishan Kumar Bum and Manmohan Baniya in 60kg, Bir Bahadur Tamang and Danbir Thapa in 65kg, and Kuber Singh Pun and Purushottam Rijal in 70kg. Likewise, Sushila Chaudhary and Ajita Rai (48kg), Tulsi Gurung and Urmila Shrestha (52kg), and Chhabi Gurung and Tej Maya Shrestha (56kg) also advanced in the women’s sansau final. — HNS
Forward, Valley Public win
KATHMANDU: Hosts Forward Academy and Valley Public School won their respective boy’s section matches on the opening day of the first Forward Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Friday. The hosts beat Bishnumati 14-12 riding on 10 points from Uttam Chhantyal while Nishan Khatri netted 22 points as Valley Public beat Grammar Public 44-22. Golden Peak edged past Greenfield School 29-21 in another boy’s match. Bishumati beat Rajan Memorial School 4-2 in a low scoring girl’s match. — HNS
Rajthala, Thapa selected
KATHMANDU: Umesh Rajthala and Januka Thapa, on Friday, have been selected for International Taekwondo Championship slated for October 1-2 in Beijing. Rajthala will take part in the men’s 50kg bout while Thapa will participate in the women’s 54kg category,
said Nepal International Taekwondo Federation (NITF) president Krishna Bahadur Balal here today. Rajthala and Thapa will also participate in the black-belt patron, said Balal. The players will be accompanied to Beijing by coach Prakash Bosel Thapa. — HNS
