Rating chess

LALITPUR: International Master (IM) Saptarishi Roy of India defeated compatriot Bipul Subhasi to take the solitary lead in the Indo-Nepal Friendly Rating Chess Tournament here on Saturday. Saptarishi have seven points going into the final ninth round while another Indian IM Atanu Lahari, Roktim Bandhopadhyaya and Shaker Roy are tied for second with 6.5 points. Roktim and Shanker ended their game in a draw today. Nepal’s Surbir Lama also have 6.5 points after his win over former national champion Punyaman Karmacharya. Janardan Shrestha, Roshan Kumar, Shanker Majumdar are next with six points each. — HNS

Monsoon Meet

KATHMANDU: Shridiwa International beat Sambotta School 39-24 and Little Angels’ defeated Mt Kailash 47-39 in the Monsoon Meet-2007 Basketball Tournament on Saturday. In other matches, Shrine beat LRI 48-39, RIBS defeated Daffodil 46-32 and Wilson beat Unique 52-42. — HNS

RIBS, Prime win

KATHMANDU: RIBS edged out Lincoln (Kathmandu’s Finest) 84-71 and Prime beat Wilson Academy 70-40 in the semi-finals of the Mohan Pradhan Memorial U-19 Basketball Tournament. Prayag Gurung netted 26 for RIBS while Sharad Robertson contributed 29 for Lincoln in the first semi-final. Rajeev Joshi of Prime and Darryl Wilson of Wilson scored 16 points each in the second semi-final. The final is scheduled at the Lincoln School on Sunday. — HNS
