Match called off

KATHMANDU: The Shikhar One-day National Cricket Tournament match between Region No 2 (Birgunj) and Region No 5 (Nepalgunj) was called off due water logged field at the TU Stadium. Match referee Devendra Subedi, who along with umpires Adip Pradhan and Himal Giri inspected the ground for the fifth time at 1:30pm, called off the match. The Group A teams earned one points each. — HNS

HIMS Basketball

KATHMANDU: Sridiwa and Wilson entered the final of the third HIMS Inter-school Basketball Tournament. Sridiwa defeated Baba 43-38. Krishna Gurung netted 13 for Sridiwa. Nawaraj Dahal scored 20 points as Wilson beat Sambotta 63-53. — HNS

Fun Cricket

LALITPUR: TU defeated Himalayan Distillery by 91 runs in the inaugural match of the Serious Fun Cricket Tournament here at The British School on Friday. Batting first, TU scored 145/6 in allotted 15 overs and then packed Himalayan Distillery for 54 runs in 7.5 overs. In the other match, Everest Hotel beat Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) by 28 runs. Batting first, Everest were bowled all out for 63 runs in 12.3 overs and in reply NSJF could muster just 35 runs in seven overs. Ankit took three wickets for Everest while Ritesh Rijal claimed four for NSJF. — HNS

KATHMANDU: National Sports Council is organising the 12th Inter-school National Sports and 10th Cultural Competition from Saturday. The three-day event features 507 players in four categories — visually impaired, specially abled, hearing impaired and mentally challenged. The event include competitions in 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 4X100m, shot put, softball throw, javelin throw, standing long jump, running long jump, high jump, wheel chair and football. The school teams will participate in the cultural competitions on June 18. — HNS

YESS Marathon

KATHMANDU: Yangrima Ex-Student Society organised the YESS Marathon 2007 for Peace and Education here on Friday. About 200 people took part in the non-competitive marathon that started from Bouddha gate and ended at Swayambhunath. The objective of the marathon was organised coinciding the last day of Saga Dawa (holiest month according to Lunar calender), said the organisers in a press release. — HNS

Akhil Cup soccer

LALITPUR: Jagat Mandir and Xavier International College entered the semi-finals of the Akhil Cup Inter-college Football Tournament here at the Chyasal grounds on Friday. Nudup Chhiring scored the extra-time winner as Jagat Mandir defeated Caspian Valley 2-1 after a 1-1 draw. In the other match, Xavier International defeated Pashupati Multiple Campus 3-1. Suraj Shrestha struck twice and Ramesh Katuwal scored one for Xavier, while Bikash Maharjan netted the consolation goal for Pashupati. — HNS
