Baluwatar triumph

KATHMANDU: Baluwatar Cricket Academy beat visiting All India Cricket Research Institute (AICRI) by 44 runs in the first of the three friendly matches held at the Laboratory School on Tuesday. Batting first, Baluwatar scored 151-8 in 30 overs riding on Mayur Malakar’s 25 and Raju Thapa’s 22. Manprit Singh took two wickets for the visitors. In reply, AICRI were all out for 107 runs in 29 overs. Abhimanyu top-scored with 15 runs. Man of the match Sunam Gautam claimed three and Devendra Yadav took two wickets for Baluwatar. — HNS

Committee formed

KATHMANDU: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Tuesday formed the 11-member Shikhar Senior One-day National Cricket Tournament organising committee under vice president Upendra Prasad Bhattarai. Tanka Prasad Paneru is the vice-president while Tarak Mani Dixit, Binod Raj Rajbhandari, Bal Kishan Gurung, Sushil Bhattarai, Amrit Shumsher Thapa, Nabin Suwal, Bhim Shris and a representative from Standard Chartered Bank are the members in the committee. — HNS

11th Mr Nepal

Kathmandu: Nepal Bodybuilding Association (NBA) is organising the 11th Mr Nepal National Bodybuilding Championship on August 18. The NBA had organised the 10th edition of the championship 13 years earlier. “We were unable to hold the competition all these years due to technical reasons but we will make it an annual event now on,” said NBA at a press meet. The competition includes six weight categories — 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 and above 75kg. A bodybuilder and a manger each from the 21 NBA-affiliated districts can take part in the event, said the organisers. Five bodybuilders each from all the six weight categories will be selected for the final round from the pre-judging round, which will be held a day earlier. Six individuals will be crowned Mr Nepal. The winners will represent Nepal in the sixth South Asian Bodybuilding Championship to be held in Kathmandu. — HNS

HIMS basketball

KATHMANDU: Wilson Academy registered an easy 60-34 win over Greenland School in the third HIMS Inter-school Basketball Tournament, which has been organised by Himalaya International Model School (HIMS), on Tuesday. Wilson took a massive 28-point lead in the first two quarters (18-4, 22-8) and never looked back. Greenland tried to bridge the gap scoring 12 and restricting Wilson to just two points in the third quarter but it wasn’t enough as Wilson outscored Greenland in the last quarter (18-10). — HNS

Shrine beat Galaxy

KATHMANDU: Shrine outscored Galaxy 55-16 in the boys’ section match at the first Inter-school Basketball Tournament, which has been organised by the Employees’ Committee of the National Sports Council. Jeevan Bhattarai netted 15 points for the winners. In the boys’ section matches on Wednesday, it’s Universal vs Rose Bud, Shrine vs Jagat Mandir, Galaxy vs Mount Kailash, Bhanubhakta vs Ideal Model, Valley Public vs Xavier’s, Babylon vs Reliance. Prithvi School will meet Xaviers in the girls’ match. — HNS
