AIPS, ASPU okay NSJF

KATHMANDU: Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) was officially granted a membership by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) and Asian Sports Press Union (ASPU) during the 70th annual congress at Bregenz, Austria on Wednesday. AIPS president Gianni Merlo recognised NSJF as its official member. Merlo, who expressed his eagerness to visit Nepal during the NSJF’s annual Player of the Year Award ceremony, said AIPS would help NSJF in every way possible. Earlier, ASPU recognised NSJF as its 31st member. NSJF president Niranjan Rajbanshi, general secretary Hemanta Kafle and member Kapil Gyawali attended the congress. — HNS

LALITPUR: Nabin Rai struck a hat-trick and Sandip Kunwar added one as Namuna Machhindra beat New Summit 4-0 in the Coca Cola Cup Inter-school Football at the ANFA Complex. West Point edged out North East 1-0, Anal Jyoti beat National United 1-0 while Manohar got walkover from Sourya Deep in other matches. At Chyasal, Arunodaya beat Bishnumati 3-1, Kathmandu Vidhya Mandir edged past Degnath 1-0, Jana Pravat blanked Adarsha 4-0 and Pragya earned walkover from Ganesh Himal. — HNS

YB Ghale resigns

KATHMANDU: Director of the ANFA Youth Development Project, YB Ghale resigned on Thursday. Ghale was nominated for the position two years ago. A member of the agitating Joint Struggle Committee, Ghale said that he has resigned on moral grounds. “There is no point assuming the position while struggling against the ANFA,” he said. — HNS

Inter-bank volleyball

KATHMANDU: Defending champions Agricultural Development Bank beat Nepal Credit and Commerce Bank 25-11, 25-20 at the Inter-bank Volleyball Tournament, organised by Nepal Rastra Bank, on Thursday. In other matches, Rastriya Banijya Bank beat Global Bank 25-6, 25-8 and Nepal Bangladesh Bank overcame Bank of Kathmandu 25-23, 25-12. — HNS
