Nepal finish first
KATHMANDU: Nepal topped the ACC Premier League 2007 (three-day cricket tournament) table with 95.5 points, said Cricket Association of Nepal on Thursday. The United Arab Emirates finished the five-nation event second with 85.5 points. Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia are the other teams of the tournament. The ACC had earlier said that the top two teams would fight for the title, but decided to scrap the final and awarded the title to Nepal. — HNS
Everest win
BHAKTAPUR: Everest Hotel defeated Soaltee Crowne Plaza by 85 runs in the final of the New Year Cup Cricket Tournament here at BSAM grounds, organised by All Nepal Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union. Electing to bat, Everest accumulated 227 runs losing nine wickets in 40 overs, riding on half centuries from Chuda Subedi and Ankit Kocher. In reply, Soaltee were packed up for 142 runs in 31.3 overs.Vivek Khadka (Soaltee) was named the best bowler, while Prajwal Budhathoki (Shangri-La) was declared the best batsman and Kocher was adjudged the man of the series. — HNS
Corporate cricket
KATHMANDU: The first Corporate Six-a-side Cricket Tournament will begin from Friday at the Tribhuvan University Stadium. In all, 16 corporate houses will compete in the two-day event organised by Nepal Corporate Sports Association (NCSA). More than 3,000 persons from different corporate houses will take part in the Corporate Fiesta, that include fun games for children, corporate stall, food stall and musical programme on the final day, said NCSA general secretary Kishor Bhattarai at a press meet on Thursday. — HNS
