Foundation stone laid

LALITPUR: The first Nepali Olympian Bhupendra Silwal laid the foundation stone to the Nepal Olympic Committee building here at Satdobato on Thursday. The building will be built in 15,000 square feet and the estimated budget of the four-storey building is Rs 30 million, said the NOC. The National Sports Council (NSC) provided the land to the NOC. Speaking on the occasion, NOC president Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan said that the construction would begin very soon and that it would be completed within a year. NOC general secretary and NSC member secretary Jeeavan Ram Shrestha was also present. — HNS

Golf tourney

KATHMANDU: Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) is organising the Seagram’s Royal Stag New Year Cup golf tournament here at the RNGC on April 13-14. The tournament, however, will be exclusively for the members of the RNGC. Himalayan Distillery is sponsoring the event. Apart from the tournament, the company has tied up with RNGC for two more events in a year, RNGC president Madhukar Yakthumba said at a press meet on Thursday. The tournament will be played in a stroke-play system, RNGC captain Rabindra Man Shrestha informed. Winners will get two tickets of Kathmandu-Bangkok-Kathmandu while the runner up will receive Kathmandu-Delhi-Kathmandu tickets for a couple. — HNS

ANFA general assembly

LALITPUR: Member secretary of National Sports Council Jeevan Ram Shrestha inaugurated the eighth annual general assembly of All Nepal Football Association here on Thursday. ANFA treasurer Birat Jung Shahi presented the estimated budget of Rs 48.625 million for the next fiscal year which was unanimously endorsed by the assembly. The assemby also decided to develop playing grounds in 10 hilly districts and two in Kathmandu Valley under the FIFA Goal Project-II. ANFA also included Coca Cola Cup Inter-school Football Tournament and Budha Subba Gold Cup under its annual calender among others. — HNS

Volleyball

KATHMANDU: Former Players and Sports Group (FPSG) is organising the Purbanchal Regional Knockout Volleyball Tournament on April 20-25 in Itahari. In all, 22 teams will take part in the event for the winner’s cheque of Rs 25,000. The runners up will get Rs 15,000 and second runner up will receive Rs 15,000, said FPSG in a release on Thursday. — HNS
