Nepal claim two golds
KATHMANDU: Nepal won two gold medals at the first Bangkok Cup All Martial Arts Championship organised by ABC Self Defence Club, said National Sports Council on Tuesday. Representing Jitkundo Club of Nepal, Shiva Bahadur Thapa won a gold in Double Strength (Patron) and a bronze in Light Weight, while Dipendra Shrestha won gold medal in Single Strength (Patron). Hikmat Bahadur Thapa won a silver medal in Heavy Weight section. — HNS
Wilson Hoops
KATHMANDU: Teresa, The Excelsior and Daffodil entered the junior boys’ semi-finals at the sixth Wilson Inter-school Basketball Tournament 2006, Wilson Hoops on Tuesday. Teresa beat Pennwood 19-18, The Excelsion outplayed HIMS 44-23, and Daffodil defeated Sambotta 44-38. In senior boys’ quarter-final, KISC defeated Sambotta 61-33, while Pennwood edged past The British School 20-19 to enter the girls’ section semi-finals. — HNS
School Basketball
KATHMANDU: Greenland, Reliance Academy, Shrine Academy and Shuvatara entered the girls’ section quarter-finals at the Valley Public Inter-school Basketball. On Tuesday, Greenland defeated Florescent Higher Secondary School 9-5; Shrine beat Shuvatara 28-14; and LRI defeated hosts Valley Public 12-8. In boys’ section, Himalayan International, Mount Glory, Suryodaya, Deep Jyoti, New Shrine and Shuvatara made it to the second round. Himalayan International beat Florescent 26-17; Suryodaya outscored Neptune 42-9; and New Shrine registered a 41-32 win over Unique. — HNS
KCM win opener
KATHMANDU: Kathmandu College of Management (KCM) defeated Nepal College of Management (NCM) by 42 runs in the inaugural match at the LACM Tri-series Cricket Tournament here at Laboratory School grounds on Tuesday. Batting first KCM were bowled out for 161 runs in their allotted 25 overs. Mashoor Ahmed scored 38 off 40 balls and Sourav quickfired 30 off 21 balls. For NCM, Sajan took three wickets. In reply, NCM were packed for 119 in 21.4 overs. Prasanna scored 33 off 23 balls and Avinash hit 26 off 22 balls. For KCM, Sanjeev Shrestha took 4-18 off five overs and won the man of the match award. On Wednesday, defending champions Little Angels’ College of Management (LACM) will take on KCM. — HNS
Nepal bag gold
KATHMANDU: A Nepali team of menatally-challenged cricketers bagged gold medal after finishing first in its group at the International Cricket Cup held in Mumbai on November 6-11. Nepal beat Afghanistan to top the group with Prem Gurung winning the best batsman award. According to the Special Olympics Nepal, the mentally-challenged teams from Australia, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and West Indies took part in the event. — HNS
7 medals for ITF
KATHMANDU: The Nepal International Taekwondo Federation ( Nepal ITF) team won three silver and four bronze medals at the third Asian ITF Championship that concluded today in New Delhi. Laxmi Maya Gautam (40kg spiring), Kusum Thapa (45kg spiring) and women’s team won silver medals. Laxmi Maya Gautam, Anju Raut, Umesh Rajthala and Sanjaya Kumar Shrestha bagged a bronze medal each. The Nepali team is scheduled to return home on Friday. — HNS
