Baba basketball :

KATHMANDU: RIBS and LRI advanced to the senior boys’ section quarter-finals at the fifth Baba Inter-school Basketball Championship today. Hosts Baba, Ideal Model, Himalayan Vidya Mandir, Shuvatara School, Brihaspati Vidya Sadan and Unique Academy have already secured the quarter-final berths. RIBS beat Himalayan Vidya Mandir 48-25 while LRI edged past GEMS 46-23 in senior boys’ matches. RIBS also made it to the junior boys’ semi-finals beating Himalayan Vidya Mandir 34-24. RIBS joined The Excelsior, Prithvi School and Baba in the semi-finals. — HNS

Volleyball league :

KATHMANDU: Fulpati Sewa Samaj and Gulmeli Yuva Club registered hard-fought wins while the match between the Armed Police Force (APF) Officers’ Club and Nightingale Sports Club was stopped with APF leading 2-1 due to bad lights at the Dhorpatan Blue Sky Cup Volleyball League Championship. Fulpati defeated Wild Sports Club 25-22, 18-25, 25-23, 17-25, 16-14 while Gulmeli Yuva beat Purbanchal 14-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13. — HNS

LA swimming :

KATHMANDU: Little Angels’ School is organising the seventh LA Inter-school Swimming Championship on September 16 and 17. According to the organisers, 350 students from 40 schools will participate in the tournament. Swimmers in different age-group will vie for the championship in backstroke, butterfly, freestyle and breaststroke events. — HNS

APF gets sponsor :

KATHMANDU: Armed Police Force (APF) Officers’ Club and Birat Shoe Company Limited joined hands to strengthen the APF football team for the next three years. Birat Thapa, general manager of Birat Shoe Company Ltd and SSP Mahendra Kumar Bhattachan signed the Memorandum of Understanding at a signing ceremony at the APF Headquarters today. As per the MoU, Birat Shoe would provide the 35 APF Club players with track suit, bags, boots, sports shoes, training boot, jersey set, socks, balls, and bipps. In return, the club will use the company’s logo in the national and international tournaments participated in by the club. IGP Basudev Oli also handed over cash prizes to the boxing, badminton and football players and coaches on the occasion. — HNS

Kirtipur Cup :

KIRTIPUR: Puspa Sadan and Mangal School entered the boys’ final in the Kirtipur Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament. Puspa Sadan edged past Hill Town 39-32 while Mangal School beat Rara Hill 38-31 in the semi-finals. Likewise, Mangal beat Jana Sewa 12-5 and Rara Hill ousted Hill Town 16-6 in the girls’ semi-finals. — HNS
