Cyclists named

KATHMANDU: Cyclists Sanjeev Thapa and Nirjala Tamrakar were selected for the upcoming 10th South Asian Games (SAG) to be held in Sri Lanka from August 18-28. The two cyclists were finalised after the special race organised on Saturday. Thapa completed the 61-km distance in one hour 35.23 seconds, while Nirjala finished the same distance in one hour 41.25 seconds. After the confirmation of the cyclists, a total of 213 Nepal athletes will take part in 18 events. Now, football remains the only discipline to select the final 20 players. — HNS

LALITPUR: Trungram International Academy (TIA) defeated Laboratory School 4-0 in the Coca Cola Inter-school Football Tournament here at ANFA Complex today. Dinesh Karki netted two and Rajiv Thapa Magar and Rajiv Sunuwar scored one each for TIA. In the other match, Gyanodaya Bal Batika School overwhelmed Brihaspati Vidya Sadan 5-0. Madhav Chaulagain and Wilson Serchan scored two goals each, while Ashesh Rai netted one for Gyanodaya. — HNS

HIMS Basketball

KATHMANDU: Namgel Higher Secondary School, Little Angels’ School (LAS), St Xavier’s School, Himalaya International Model School (HIMS) and Gyanodaya School registered wins on the third day of the second HIMS Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Sunday. In the third day’s matches, Namgel defeated Shanti Adarsha 55-23; LAS defeated Shuvatara (Lamatar) 50-36; St Xavier’s thrashed Paragon 55-14 ad entered the knock-out round; hosts HIMS outplayed Shuvatara (Sanepa) 31-22; and Gyanodaya beat LRI 51-34. — HNS

Nava Jyoti win

KATHMANDU: Nava Jyoti Yuva Club Parivar thrashed Cannon Club 8-1 in the ‘C’ Division League match on Sunday. Boys’ Union Club coach Rajendra KC and his player Hari Thakuri played for Nava Jyoti, with the ‘A’ Division Club coach scoring one and Thakuri netting two goals. Anup Ghale scored twice, while Saroj Tamang, Silver Till and Ritu Raj Adhikari netted one each for Nava Jyoti. Hercules Basnet scored the consolation goal for Cannon Club. In the other match, Chakrapath Youth Club overwhelmed Garuda Sports Club 5-0. Uday Gurung struck twice whereas Lava Thapa, Bibek Gurung and Buddhi Lal Nagarkoti scored one each for the winners. — HNS

Valleywide Race

KATHMANDU: Melina Rai Santoshi Shrestha and Uma Adhikari clinched the girl’s’ section top three spots respectively in the Valleywide Inter-school Running Competition organised by North Bureau of All Nepal National Free Student’ Union on the occasion of 28th Pushpalal Memorial Day. Laxman Malla Thakuri, Ramesh Sunuwar and Deepak Bhatta came first, second and third respectively in the boys’ section. Politburo member of NCM (ML) Jagat Bogati, ANNFSU convenor Bhim Rai, joint convenor Salik Ram KC and legendary athlete Baikuntha Manandhar gave away certificates to the winners of the competition, which was participated in by 29 girls and 42 boys. — HNS
