Kanishka awarded

KATHMANDU: Martyrs Dasharath Chand Memorial Trust honoured cricketer Kanishka Chaugain, athlete Nirmala Bharati and judo player Lila Adhikari with the excellent players award of the year 2005/2006 on Saturday.

Chaugain played a crucial role in Nepal’s win in the U-19 World Cup Plate Championship held in Sri Lanka while Bharati claimed overall sixth position in the Berlin Half Marathon. Adhikari was recognised for her silver medal win in International Judo Championship (Hong Kong) and bronze medal winning performance in the fourth India Cup International Judo Championship, the organisers said.

Chaugain was awarded with Rs 15,000 while Bharati and Adhikari were presented with

Rs 10,000 each. — HNS

TIA, Gyanodaya win

LALITPUR: Trungram International Academy (TIA) and Gyanodaya Secondary School qualified for the next round after winning their respective group finals in the Coca Cola Inter-school Football Tournament on Saturday. TIA defeated Panga Secondary School 4-1 in Group A final while Gyanodaya beat Siddhiganesh School 3-2 in the Group C final.

Dinesh Karki struck hat-trick and Mohan Limbu scored another for TIA while Biswas Lama pulled back a consolation goal for Panga. Ravi KC scored twice in the 43rd and 45th minute and Rajesh Lamichhane scored the other for Gyanodaya while Kumar Thapa scored both the goals for Siddhiganesh.

and Gyanmala School entered Group L final after winning their respective semi-final matches. Harkaman Lama struck five goals alone as Gyanmala humiliated Pashupati Mitra School 6-2. In another semi-final, Siddhartha Children defeated Peace Point

School 2-1. Dilip Adhikari and Birendra Pun scored a goal each for Siddhartha after Ashish Thapa conceded an own-goal to Peace Point early in the third minute. — HNS
