KATHMANDU: Nepali chess players went down fighting against Belgium by 3.5 against 0.5 in the 37th Chess Olympiad in Turin on Thursday. Bilam Lal Shrestha lost to FIDE Master Gulbas Cemil, rated 2362. Nepali No 1, Keshav Shrestha, played superbly against 2417 rated Im Van Der Stritch Geert but gave up at the end. Rajendra Prasad Shrestha was in very good position against the 2416 rated Cekro Ekram but eventually lost the game. On Wednesday, Digesh Shankar Malla pulled out a win against International Master of Guatemala Imjuarez Flores Carlos Armando. ā€” HNS

KATHMANDU: Kumari Club humiliated Mali Youth Samaj 17-0 in the ā€˜Cā€™ Division qualifying football tournament here at Sano Gaucharan grounds today. Wambule Rai Samaj thrashed Kanya Pustakalaya 7-1 and Kamal Youth Pratisthan beat Legend Youth Club 3-1 in other matches.

Likewise, Chyasal Youth Club defeated Kirtipur Sports Development Club 1-0 and Kalika Mahabir Sports Club overcame Jhamsikhel Youth Club 3-2. The match between Raniban Nawayuva Group and Nakhipot Youth Club was postponed for technical reasons. ā€” HNS
