Gurung, Malla in final
KATHMANDU: Mukhiya Gurung beat fellow Cosmos Solarium queist Pradeep Shrestha 5-2 and Keshar Malla of Cosmos beat Mukesh Newa of ASM Club 5-2 and entered the final of the Cosmos Open Snooker Tournament. The best-of-11 set final will be held on Monday. The winner will get Rs 6,000 while the runner-up will receive Rs 3,000 and the highest breaker will be given Rs 1,000.
Bansbari triumph
KATHMANDU: Bharat Shakya scored a hat-trick as Bansbari Youth Club blanked Kalika Mahabir Club 4-0 in the ‘C’ Division League Football Tournament. Rajendra Suwal scored the other goal. In other matches, Satdobato Club beat Annapurna Club 2-0 with Niresh Dulal netting both goals; Bikey Lama scored the only goal as Swayambhu Club beat Battisputali Club 1-0; and Birgunj Youth Academy thrashed Chakrapath Club 6-0.
Pradhan beats Acharya
LALITPUR: Yusef Pradhan defeated Prahlad Acharya in boys’ 25-kg final at the Birthday Cup Karate and Kick Boxing Tournament organised by Lagankhel Dojo of Nepal Shito Ryu Karate Association to mark the 59th Birthday of King Gyanendra. In other boys’ finals, Rajeev Ranjit beat Bipin Maharjan (30kg); Sumit Magaiya beat Ajit Koju (35kg); Mahesh Maharjan beat Kiran Sehgal (40kg); Shyam Rai beat Narendra Lama (45kg); Mande Kaji Shrestha beat Milan Nepali (50kg); Bikesh Shrestha beat Surendra Shahi (55kg); Binod Maharjan beat Pratham Thapa (60kg); Jagat Singh Dhami beat Umesh Malla (65kg); Ishwor Hari Maharjan beat Nabin Karki (70kg); and Binod Maharjan won in Open section. In Individual Kata, Sulochana Sijako and Ram Chandra Gurung won in women’s and men’s section respectively. Also, Rosy Nagarkoti beat Sabita Shrestha in 50kg and Sangita Dangol beat Kalpana Gurung in girls’ 55kg Kick Boxing.
Deepika School win
KATHAMNDU: Deepika School beat New Buddha School 4-2 in the final of the Bipul Inter-school Football Tournament organised to mark the 59th birthday of King Gyanendra. Centennial School grabbed the third spot beating hosts Bipul Shikshya Niketan. Bhimsen Basnet was named the best player and Ramesh Katuwal was declared the highest scorer with 13 goals. Coach of Bouddha Football Club Arjun Lama gave away prizes.
IoE clinch NCE Cup
LALITPUR: Man of the match Tirtha Raj Gurung and Richan Shrestha scored two goals each as Institute of Engineering downed Kantipur City College 4-0 to win the NCE Cup Inter-technical College Football Tournament organised by National Students’ Council of National College of Engineering (NCE). Suraj Gurung of Thapathali was named the best player while Tirtha Raj Gurung was the highest scorer. Pramod Adhikari of IoE was declared the best goalkeeper.

KATHMANDU: National champion Digesh Shanker Malla, along with Vijendra Singh, Laxmi Nath Kandel, Rajendra Shrestha, Punya Man Karmacharya, Janardan Shrestha and Prem Krishna Shrestha, earned three points each after the second and third rounds at the Nation wide Open Chess Tournament. — HNS
