NPC enter final
JHAPA: Nepal Police Club defeated ANFA Academy Under-19 team 4-1 tie breaker to enter the final of the Martyr Gold Cup Football Tournamament here on Friday. The match was decided on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Nirajan Malla had put the ANFA team ahead in the 36th minute and NPC levelled the scores in the 51st minute through Dipen Shrestha. In tie breaker, Dipen Shrestha, Chetan Ghimire, Ananta Thapa and Bhola Silwal scored for the police team, while Sabindra Shrestha was the only successful penalty taker for the ANFA Academy. NPC goalkeeper Ritesh Thapa saved Rohit Chand’s strike, while Shiva Shrestha’s attempt went wide. Bhola Silwal of NPC was declared the man of the match. On Saturday, NPC will take on New Road Team (NRT) in the final. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Rupesh Jaiswal of Deep Jyoti won both the matches to take sole lead at the Valleywide Inter-school Running Shield Chess Championship here on Friday. Rupesh defeated Kailash Bahadur Sherma and Bijay Raj Aryal in the fifth and sixth rounds respectively to accumulate six points. Second-placed Prashanta Bhasima, Binita Kapali, Satyendra Maharjan, Amrit Rijal, Niraj Dhakal, Bijay Raj Aryal and Kailash Bahadur Sharma have five points each. Prashanta Chalise and Bikky Dangol earned 4.5 points. — HNS
Prime clean sweep
KATHMANDU: Nabita Shrestha and Sachin Dangol defeated fellow Prime College duo of Sanjay Shrestha and Anita Maharjan 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6 to win the mixed
doubles title at the Capital Hill Table Tennis Tournament here on Friday. Prime also won the
women’s team event beating Brookfield. Also, Nabita and Anita of Prime bagged the women’s doubles gold medal beating Manju Gurung and Rabina Maharjan of Brookfield 11-5, 11-7, 7-11, 13-11. A total of 200 players from 20 colleges are taking part in the tournament that runs through Sunday. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Kick Boxing player and member of the Nepal National Martial Art Games Committee (NNMAGC) Sudip Pandip Chhetry on Friday left for England to take part in the Clash UK British Open to be held there on Sunday. Chhetry is scheduled to take part in the Light Contact Kick Boxing 71kg weight category. — HNS
RCT, NRT win
LALITPUR: Sunil Rajbhandari scored two goals in two minutes as Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) defeated Nabil Three Star Club 2-0 at the Nepal Bank ‘A’ Division Junior League Football Tournament here at the ANFA Complex on Friday. Rajbhandari scored in the 44th and 46th minutes. In the other match, New Road Team (NRT) outplayed Boys Union Club 3-0. NRT took lead through an own goal in the 32 minute and Sabin Moktan doubled the lead in the 53rd minute. Sunil Thapa selaed the victory in the 64th minute. — HNS
National Volleyball
KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Club (NPC) defeated Ex-Bagar Club 25-12, 25-14, 25-14 in the inaugural match of the National Men’s Super League Volleyball Tournament. In other matches, Tribhuvan Army Clyb (TAC) outplayed Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre (JVTC) 25-17, 15-21, 25-18 and Nepal APF Club beat ECS Manpower 25-17, 25-18, 26-24. The winners earned two points, while the losers got one. NPC, TAC and APF earned the direct berths inthe Super League as the top three teams of the last year’s national tournament, while Ex-Bagar, JVTC and ECS were qualified from the tournament on Thursday. — HNS
