Monsoon Meet

KATHMANDU: Kantipur made it to the senior girls’ quarter-finals with a 24-12 win over Galaxy in the fifth Monsoon Meet Basketball Tournament here on Wednesday. Despite the loss Galaxy also made it through along with Brihaspati Vidya Sadan, Sridiwa, Rato Bangala, Teresa and Pennwood Academy. Entering the quarter-finals in the junior boys’ category were Galaxy, South Point, Arunodaya, Brihaspati, Sridiwa, Young Heart, New Shrine and Gyan Niketan. In the senior boys’ section, Sambotta beat Suryodaya 51-30, Sridiwa saw off Wilson 34-30, Shuvatara thrashed EPS 50-17, Pennwood dispatched Brihaspati 48-29, LRI overcame Chandbagh 50-28, Young Heart beat Galaxy 47-35 and HIMS defeated Excelsior 31-19. — HNS

Hosts enter quarters

KATHMANDU: Hosts Budhanilkantha School entered the quarter-finals of the fourth NK Memorial Inter-college Football Tournament on Wednesday. Budhanilkantha thrashed Herald International College 7-2 after Rohit Khadka alone scored five goals. Srijan Ayer scored a brace for the losing team. Defending champion Shree Budhanilkantha Higher Secondary School defeated Trijyoti College 1-0 with a solitary goal from Santosh Pandey. In another match Kiran KC’s decider saw St Lawrence register a 1-0 win over White House. National Campus got walk over win. — HNS

Swimming tourney

KATHMANDU: Himalayan International Model Higher Secondary School (HIMS) is organising the second HIMS Inter-school Swimming Championships at their school premises from August 25. Swimmers from more than 32 schools will vie for 34 gold medals in six events — freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly, individual medley and 4x50 relay. School earning a maximum points will lift the team championship. — HNS

Araniko in semis

KATHMANDU: Araniko School advanced to the semi-finals of the eighth Kirtipur Inter-school Boys Basketball Tournament here on Wednesday. Araniko defeated Ideal Model 49-23 riding on a superb 27 points from Akash. Panga, Rara Hill and Learning Realm International (LRI) also joined Araniko in the last four. Araniko will meet Panga and Rara Hill will face LRI for a place in the final. — HNS
